Each chapter begins with a short introduction, helping you get familiar with key words and preparing you for the dialogues. Within each chapter, you’ll find two to three conversations that reflect realistic, everyday situations between the ‘me’ character (your role) and a conversation partner.

The A1 dialogues focus on familiar contexts such as visiting a supermarket, ordering at a restaurant, or going to the doctor, while the A2 dialogues introduce slightly more complex situations like job applications, discussing a household problem, or planning social activities. The conversations use natural language to prepare you for real-life interactions, and the fill-in-the-blank sections allow you to experiment with shaping dialogues to your own insight. We created this bundle based on the complete CEFR guideline. 

Each chapter concludes with a vocabulary list featuring key terms, including verbs, nouns, and adjectives, alongside common questions and their answers. These lists complement the vocabulary in the dialogues, offering even more opportunities to work on your Dutch speaking skills. The included English translations make it easy to learn without interruptions, while also reinforcing new words for long-term retention.

This introduction exposes you to the first key words and lets you discover what to expect in the dialogues. All chapters have two to three dialogues that take place between two people: the me-person and the conversational partner.  

With Praatgraag A1, you practice your Dutch speaking skills in a natural way. The conversations take place in everyday situations, such as in a restaurant, the supermarket, in the schoolyard or at the doctor’s office. By using natural speech, you will prepare yourself optimally for conversations in your own daily life. Using the fill-in-the-blank options, you’ll discover which directions a conversation can go and expand your vocabulary even further. Thanks to the English translations, you will remember the new vocabulary even better. Moreover, you don’t have to interrupt practice when unfamiliar words appear.

Each chapter ends with a comprehensive vocabulary list featuring various word types related to the topic, including verbs, nouns and adjectives. In addition to a list of individual words, you can also check the most frequently asked questions (and their answers) in these settings. All of this complements the already wide range of words you learn in the dialogues themselves and makes you an even more flexible and independent speaker. With the completion of this module, you’ll converse more confidently in Dutch-speaking environments.

And just in case someone goes off-script in the real world, we’ve included lists of often used questions and words (as well as their translations) for each theme. That way, real-life conversations won’t surprise you easily.
