Frequently Asked Questions
- A2 inburgering exam
The A2 Dutch exam is part of the civic integration (inburgering) process. If you’re applying for permanent residence or Dutch citizenship voluntarily, you currently need to prove your Dutch language skills at A2 level. Passing the exam allows you to meet this language requirement, but the level is expected to rise to B1 in the near future.
No, if you are not obliged to follow a civic integration programme, the exam is voluntary. However, if you want to apply for permanent residence or Dutch citizenship, you still need to pass the A2 Dutch language exam to meet the requirement. Many expats choose to prepare proactively so they can take the Dutch A2 exam before the rules change.
The Dutch government has already increased the required level from A2 to B1 for people who are obliged to integrate. Plans are in place to extend this to voluntary applicants as well. Although no official date has been confirmed, changes are expected soon, which is why it’s smart to take the Dutch A2 exam before the rules change.
This depends on your starting level, learning pace, and how intensively you study. With private A2 Dutch lessons, many learners reach the required level within a few months. Our personalised approach focuses on building all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, so you can confidently pass the exam.
If you already meet the A2 level, you don’t need a full integration course. Instead, our A2 exam prep group course focuses on exam strategies, time management and practising with authentic exams. This targeted training helps you pass the test efficiently and stress-free.
We offer two clear routes: private inburgering lessons for learners who still need to reach A2 level, and group exam preparation courses for those ready to focus on exam technique. Both options are flexible, guided by experienced teachers, and designed to help you succeed before the rules change.
You can combine them in the sense that you first take private lessons to build your language skills, and then continue with exam prep. This combination gives you both a solid language foundation and the exam techniques you need to pass.
